Sharing Equally — Multiply & Divide Pathway

What does sharing equally mean?

  • Sharing means giving out the same amount to everyone.
  • 12 shared between 3 people means each person gets 4.
  • We write: 12 / 3 = 4.
  • Everyone must get the same number.

Example: 10 shared between 2

  1. Step 1: Give 1 to each person. That uses 2.
  2. Step 2: Give another 1 each. That uses 2 more.
  3. Step 3: Keep going until all 10 are given out.
  4. Answer: Each person gets 5. So 10 / 2 = 5.

Your turn

  • Try: 8 shared between 4 people.
  • Give 1 to each: that uses 4.
  • Give 1 more to each: that uses another 4. Total used: 8.
  • Each person has 2. So 8 / 4 = 2.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Giving different amounts to different people. Sharing equally means everyone gets the same.
  • Forgetting to check: multiply the share by the number of people to get back to the total.

Real-Life Example

You have 12 sweets to share between 3 friends. Each friend gets 12 / 3 = 4 sweets. Check: 4 + 4 + 4 = 12.

Extra Support Hints

  • Use real objects like coins or buttons to share out.
  • Deal them out one at a time, like playing cards, until you run out.
