Functional Skills Maths: Division (Level 1)
Share equally and find half of a number
What is Sharing?
- Division means sharing equally.
- We use the ÷ sign.
- Example: 6 ÷ 2 = 3.
- This means 6 shared between 2 gives 3 each.
How to Share Equally
- Give one to each person at a time.
- Keep going until all the items are shared.
- Example: 8 ÷ 2. Give 1 to person A, 1 to person B. Repeat.
- 8 shared between 2 = 4 each.
Halving
- Halving means dividing by 2.
- Half of 10 = 10 ÷ 2 = 5.
- Half of 8 = 8 ÷ 2 = 4.
- Half of 20 = 20 ÷ 2 = 10.
